Today, I had set aside the entire day to work from home and finish a few BR Services Utah projects.Then my son called and told me he was downstairs, waiting to take me out for ice cream.

For a moment, I hesitated. I told him I still had a few things to finish, but he insisted. So I replied:

“Okay, give me a minute. I’ll get the car and meet you there.”

That was when he said:

“No, Mom. I don’t want to go by car today. I’ll ride my scooter, and you can walk beside me because I want to have one of those long conversations we always have. I love them, and I miss them.”

In that moment, I understood that the pause was not a waste of time. It was exactly where my time needed to be.

That moment brought me back to something my father used to say:

“A house is simply a place filled with things. A home is where we find peace, experience joy, and restore our energy.”

I have carried those words with me ever since. But it was only after becoming a mother and trying to balance work, responsibilities, and being present that I truly understood their meaning.

Before moving to the United States, I worked outside the home while Dona Zô took care of our house. Every day when I returned, I found a clean, organized, fresh-smelling space — a place where I could finally breathe.

It was not about having perfectly polished floors or everything in its proper place. It was about coming home and feeling that I could truly rest and be present for what mattered most.
